RemodelsAdditions & Brick Matching

- Sample panels
- Toothed-in tie-ins
Upper Arlington never stops remodeling. The 1920s brick homes of the original Country Club District get kitchen wings and second stories. Thousands of 1950s and 1960s ranches still carry broad brick chimneys with two fireplaces. And where older houses were torn down, new homes went up with stone veneer chimneys and factory-built fireboxes. Each needs a different kind of mason. Ours works out of Scioto Parkway, and the phone is answered day and night.
Texts from UA homeowners
We hunt down salvaged or close-match brick by size, color and texture, and lay out a sample panel before any wall goes up.
Sand, tint and tooling are matched so the new joints read the same as the old ones.
New brick is woven into the old wall instead of butting against it, so there's no straight seam.
We work with your general contractor or architect and keep to their schedule.

RanchesWide 1950s and 1960s chimneys serving two fireplaces, repointed, recrowned and capped over both flues.
Newer homesCracked or loose veneer, missing weep details and leaking chase tops on homes built in the last 25 years.
1920s brickRepointing, crown work and partial rebuilds for the original brick and stone homes of early Upper Arlington.
FluesCracked clay flues relined and gas or wood inserts fitted to bring an old fireplace up to date.
SweepsNeat sweeps with floor protection and filtered vacuums, plus camera checks and reports when you buy or sell.
Many postwar UA ranches have a big brick chimney serving a living room fireplace and a basement rec-room fireplace. The basement one is often forgotten, and that's where problems hide.
We camera-check each flue separately, since one can be fine while the other is cracked.
Rusted dampers, loose firebrick and water stains in the basement fireplace get looked at closely.
Old cast-iron cleanout doors that no longer close are replaced to keep drafts and pests out.
Keep it burning, add an insert, or seal the flue you'll never use again.
Many new UA homes have a factory-built fireplace inside a framed chase, wrapped in stone or brick veneer. It looks like masonry, but it fails differently.
Without proper flashing and weep openings, rain gets behind the stone and soaks the framing.
Adhered stone pops off when its backing fails. We find out why before resetting it.
Flat sheet-metal tops rust and pool water. We replace them with sloped stainless tops.
Cracked refractory panels and worn components replaced to the manufacturer's specs.
Every part of UA, plus the communities along the Scioto and Olentangy.

A dispatcher picks up, gets the details and schedules or sends a crew. Leaks during a storm, a damaged chimney top or smoky rooms are handled the same night when possible. Any actual fire, gas odor or carbon monoxide alarm is a 911 call first, then ours.
Usually very closely. We look for salvaged brick or the nearest current product, match mortar color and joint style, and build a sample panel for you to approve.
It can. Unused flues still let water and cold air in, and rusted dampers or cleanout doors cause drafts. We can inspect it and either restore or seal it.
Adhered stone veneer usually fails because water got behind it. We check flashing, weep details and the chase top before reattaching or replacing stone.
Yes. Prefab fireplaces have specific parts and clearances. We inspect them, replace worn panels and caps with compatible parts, and service the chase above.
Yes. We regularly handle the masonry portion of additions and renovations and coordinate with builders and architects.
